Holy Annunciation Monastery at 403 West County Road, Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania.

This review is for the Carmelite Kitchen, homemade baked goods produced by the Byzantine Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Holy Annunciation Monastery, Sugarloaf Pa. As part of a gift bag, I was fortunate to receive a 'Carpathian Walnut Roll' (nut roll) and a jar of their Plum Jam. Both were outstanding.

Nut Roll: The nut roll had a generous amount of filling, a tasty dough and was uniformly filled, rolled and baked. One bite and thoughts like "just like Baba used to make" come to mind. The sisters have truly captured that homemade taste with every perfectly baked bite.

Plum Jam: It is such a rarity to see an ingredient list for something that is both short and lacking all those 'ingredients' that you can't even pronounce. Certainly that is the case here with Carmelite Kitchen's homemade Plum Jam! Fruit, sugar, water and pectin come together to make a fruity, sweet and wonderfully spreadable preserve. Imagine your hot piece of toast, generously buttered with this plum jam swirled throughout. Yum!

The Byzantine Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Holy Annunciation Monastery are located near Hazleton, PA in Sugarloaf. I highly recommend helping to support their monastery by purchasing the tasty treats made in their kitchen. Their obvious focus on wholesome ingredients and beautiful preparation make their goods both wonderful to enjoy at home and to give as gifts to those, like me, who particularly at the holidays, long for a 'taste of the Hazleton area'.

While there, take advantage of the opportunity to visit their beautiful chapel and appreciate its iconography and magnificent dove tabernacle hanging above the holy table (altar).
